Over successive retriggers, you can collect up to nine special symbols, at which point any symbol can expand. There is no predefined cap on retriggers, although practical session limits and casino rules apply.
Example
If Kings are your chosen symbol and you land a K on reels 1, 3, and 5 during a bonus spin, each of those reels will expand to full height with Kings and pay as a three of a kind across all paylines, even though the symbols are not adjacent.
